An East Fort Lauderdale woman is fighting off severe facial infections and the owner of a Doral spa has been arrested, accused of administering a “facial rejuvenation” treatment that sent the woman to the hospital.
The victim claims that in July she paid the spa owner $890 to receive injections of vitamins between her eyebrows, on her chin, and on the corners of her mouth. She alleges that she was told that the injections would make her face “more radiant.”
According to the police report, the woman contends that after 12 days she didn’t see any changes to her face, so she returned to Viviana’s Body Secrets Spa, where the owner allegedly injected her again, this time with a thicker needle. Soon after, the woman started experiencing redness, itching, and swelling in her face.
The hospitalized woman alleges that the spa owner brought her medications and even took her to a doctor once for treatment, but then stopped taking her calls and returning her messages. In August, she went to the Broward General Medical Center. She will remain there until her infections have healed.
Authorities recently raided and shut down the spa and arrested the owner, charging her with aggravated battery, practicing massage without a license, causing serious injury by practicing as a health care professional without a license, and practicing medicine without a license.
The spa owner’s attorney denies that his 38-year-old client injected the customer with anything. She was released from jail after posting a $21,000 bond.
