A lab-boxer mix escaped its cage at an animal shelter and jumped into an open mini-van window, attacking two small children who were inside. The mother of the children, who reportedly was a volunteer at the Second Chance Animal Shelter in Bunnell, was also injured as she attempted to fight off the dog.

According to police, the dog escaped from its cage, jumped into the van’s open passenger-side window and immediately attacked a three-year-old boy inside. Reportedly, the dog latched onto the boy’s head and dragged him to the van’s floor.

The mother of the boy allegedly wrestled with the dog and was able to pry its mouth off of her son’s head, but then the dog attacked her. She suffered bites on her face and neck. She was able to gain control of the dog and allegedly put it back in the cage, but it escaped a second time and jumped back into the van.

This time, the dog attacked her five-year-old daughter. It allegedly bit her on the shoulder and dragged her to the floor of the van. The mother was able to gain control of the dog again and put it in a holding area. She called for help and rescue personnel transported her and her two children to Florida Hospital Flagler.

Five dogs were taken into custody and euthanized after they viciously attacked a 7-year-old girl at a home in the Taft area of Orange County
A News 13 in Orlando reporter spoke to a neighbor who said that a 4-year-old lives at the house and that she had invited the 7-year-old girl in to play. The owner of the house, reportedly the 4-year-old girl’s grandmother, told reporters that she had told her granddaughter that she shouldn’t let anybody into the bedroom where the dogs were. She claims the dogs belong to her daughter.

The dogs reportedly were all black Labrador-husky mixes and all weighed at least 85 pounds. Four of the five dogs were only 10 months old. It took three men to pull the dogs off of the little girl. One of the men also received a bite on his leg.

One eyewitness reported that the child had a laceration under her arm, one or two serious bites on her back and some smaller bites on her face and shoulder. The witness also reported seeing blood coming from the little girl’s leg, but could not confirm if she had been bitten there.

Holly Hill Police are reporting that up to three people may have been injured by two mixed breed pit bulls that escaped through an unsecured gate in a backyard and then went on a local attacking spree.

Police said they handled two cases that were directly attributed to the pit bull attacks, and that they later received a call from Halifax Health Medical Center that a third person, claiming to have been attacked by pit bulls, had gone to the emergency room via taxi.

The first attack occurred about 3 a.m. in the area of Walker and State Avenues. A 42-year-old pedestrian told police he came upon two mixed pit bull breed dogs that were acting aggressively. When he tried to run, they attacked.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports that the man was taken to Halifax Health Medical surgery where he underwent surgery for a severe bite to his lower leg. Police were unable to locate the dogs at that time.

The second attack occurred a couple of hours later, when the dogs also mauled a man walking to work. He suffered bites to his arms and legs and was also taken to Halifax Health Medical Center.

According to a report by the Lakeland Sheriff’s Office, a pit bull that jumped a fence, pulled a yard worker off his lawnmower, and viciously mauled him, has been euthanized.

Florida Dog Bite AttackA co-worker told the Sheriff’s Department that he and the victim were mowing the lawn at a Lakeland residence when the pit bull jumped the fence from behind their client’s home and attacked. A 54-year-old Lakeland man suffered multiple injuries and bites to his arms, legs, and hands and was rushed to Lakeland Regional Medical Center where he underwent surgery. At last report, he was in the hospital in stable condition.

The owner of the dog voluntarily surrendered the animal. Once it was determined that the dog did not have rabies, authorities euthanized the dog. The dog bite victim attorneys in Florida at Farah & Farah have learned that a mail carrier was viciously attacked by two pit bulls in Miami Gardens as she was recently walking her mail delivery route.

According to CBS News Miami, the two dogs escaped from a yard and began attacking the postal worker, biting her face, arms, and legs. She reportedly screamed, “Oh, Lord please help me,” while the attack was going on. Witnesses said that two Good Samaritan’s passing by saved her and that the postal worker was bleeding profusely before being rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Neighbors told CBS News that the dogs are normally chained in the owner’s yard and it is still unclear how they escaped. The owner of the dogs claimed the pit bulls are registered as American Bulldogs and it has been confirmed that they have had all of their vaccinations. The dogs remain at the home while the investigation into the incident continues.

The Orlando personal injury lawyers at Farah & Farah have learned that a man who was attacked by an Orlando Police K-9 police dog during a mistaken identity arrest in 2009 is suing the two police officers involved, the City of Orlando, and even the dog, claiming that his civil rights were violated.

Police were looking for the man’s half brother. He was being sought on charges of robbery with a firearm and attempted first-degree murder. The Orlando Sentinel reports that police had received a tip that the plaintiff, who was then a junior in high school, was the suspect they were looking for.

He was carrying a puppy and walking with his sister when he claims two police officers told him to get down on the ground. He says he didn’t think they were talking to him, so he didn’t comply. After a second command, he released the puppy and got down on the ground – but then got up again.

Gainesville Police Dog AttackThe City Commission of Gainesville has recently approved $50,000 to settle a lawsuit brought by the family of a 10-year-old boy who was bitten by a police dog.

The incident occurred in 2010 when Gainesville police were called to an apartment complex in what later turned out to be a false report of a burglary-in-progress. Allegedly, the boy was on his bike and retrieving mail from the front of the complex when he saw the police car speeding toward him. He rode a short distance then jumped off his bike and starting running toward his home.

This is a story that is shocking on a couple of levels.

First, an 84-year-old Chieftain man was attacked by a neighbor’s pit bull while he was mowing his lawn. According to the dog attack victim, the vicious assault was completely unprovoked and he had to fight off the dog for ten minutes before he could get free and call 9-1-1.

A spokesman for the Levy County Sheriff’s Department said that the elderly man had lost a lot of blood and had bite wounds on his head, neck, arms, and legs. “It was an extremely gruesome crime scene, ” the spokesman stated.

An 11-year-old girl is recovering from reconstructive surgery at Joe DiMaggio’s Children Hospital in Hollywood, Florida, following a vicious dog attack during a sleepover at a friend’s house.

According to the girl’s father, his daughter was watching a movie at a friend’s house in Royal Palm Beach when she rolled off the couch. When she tried to get up, the family English bulldog/Jack Russel mix attacked her, tearing off almost all of the tissue from her left nostril to her upper lip, which exposed her teeth and gums.

Initially, she was flown to St. Mary’s Medical Center where a surgeon performed an emergency reconstructive surgery that failed to reconnect the tissue gathered at the scene of the attack.

She was later taken to Joe DiMaggio’s Children Hospital, where plastic surgeons used a portion of the girl’s lower lip to complete the upper lip. According to the Miami Herald, this procedure is common for cleft patients.
